Stoneware and porcelain, hibiscus, steel | 2025
158 x146. 5 x 11.5cm
A caiman’s dismembered limbs modelled in stoneware are presented surrounded by hibiscus flowers. The piece utilizes reptilian symbolisms associated with the Earth to reflect on environmental destruction and loss. Clay is broken-down rock and organic matter, esentialy earth. The sculpted forms exhibit cuts, scratches and perforations — violent actions enacted by human hands. Hibiscus flowers are used as votive objects. The flowers' scent reminds audiences of the popular sweetened iced tea consumed in Mexico and its characteristic blood red hue.
