Costumed performance with two performers
7 min | 2025
Performance in the form of a ritual in which two women walk round a pile of earth marked with four red candles. As they cleanse the space with burning incense, one of the performers enters a state of pained labor. Minutes later, she births two red snakes, which she immediately destroys and burries under the earth. The second performer accompanies the action with percusive drumming.
Costumes are composed of plain cotton robes, serpent-shaped ceramic face masks and red ceramic snakes that hang from a ribbon tied round the waist. The scenography includes a pile of earth, a glass water jug, twelve cream candles, four red candles-coloured and an improvised gong.
Presented at 0:00 hrs on 8 February 2025 as part of Noche boca arriba at Biblioforevers, Mexico City.
